  • Ensure common language and forms for all data capture forms. For example, if you are capturing “intake numbers”, define what “intake” is to ensure clean data.
  • Data is being captured and stored on a universal online form or system. Include training the team on how to submit and input the data as a scheduled part of the work plan.
  • Progress reports are provided consistently to ensure accuracy and, for nonprofits, to provide transparency to the public. In addition, showing the raw data in a summary will ensure those providing the data substantiate its accuracy and gives a picture to the community of the current work in progress.
  • Purpose of the data and how it demonstrates impact is understood by those who are responsible for capturing the data. Your data team is a critical member of your agency and their recognition of their role in demonstrating success is highly valuable.
  • Use the data to shift program strategies and emerging priorities. While program and agency goals do not typically change, how you achieve those goals may as you review and evaluate the data. This is valuable for everyone and shifts in strategy are ways to grow.
